The Chair of Numerical Mathematics at the TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology is always interested in hearing from outstanding researchers with a strong mathematical background who are passionate about the mathematical foundations of PDE-based modeling and numerical simulation.

Our research includes

Analysis and numerics of nonlinear PDEs
Finite element and alternative discretization methods
Solver and coupling techniques
Mathematical modeling and simulation
High-dimensional algorithms and high-performance computing
Applications in biomechanics, geophysics, fluid dynamics, and polymer modeling

Typical research activities

Development and mathematical analysis of PDE-based models
Derivation, analysis, and implementation of numerical methods
Theorem-oriented research, including convergence, stability, and error analysis
Development of efficient scientific software and computational algorithms
Collaboration in interdisciplinary research projects and dissemination of research results

We particularly welcome applications from candidates holding a PhD in Applied Mathematics, Numerical Analysis, Scientific Computing, or a closely related mathematical discipline with a strong background in PDEs, functional analysis, and numerical analysis. Our focus lies on the mathematical analysis and development of computational methods rather than the application of commercial simulation software or purely engineering-oriented workflows.

We can offer an international research environment, excellent computational infrastructure (including GPU clusters and supercomputers), and the opportunity to develop an independent research profile. We particularly encourage initiatives from women and other groups currently underrepresented in mathematics and computational sciences.
