12th May is International Women in Mathematics Day. Because we want to celebrate this day together at our department, we invite you to the following events.

Keynote speech by Allyn Jackson

Look Back in Admiration: Some Women Mathematicians of the 20th Century

May 12, 2022, at 16:30, Friedrich L. Bauer Hörsaal (Hörsaal 1)

The abstract: This lecture will look at the lives of some outstanding women mathematicians of the 20th century. While celebrating their achievements, we will also consider their perspectives on the hurdles they faced as women in a field historically populated only by men.

Allyn Jackson is a writer and editor who worked for the American Mathematical Society for more than 30 years. She is known for in-depth interviews with many famous mathematicians and articles about them, some of which also appeared in Süddeutsche Zeitung. Her talk is followed by

  • a panel discussion on "Women in science: What has changed? What still needs to change?" with our math professor Donna Ankerst and others, and
  • a reception with snacks and drinks.

Of course, participation is free and everyone is welcome. However, for better planning, it would be nice to indicate your participation at terminplaner4.
