Numerical mathematics and scientific computing are areas in the field of applied mathematics. Here we project and analyze efficient and precise algorithms for a multitude of problems, and implement them using modern supercomputers.
Often, our work involves emulating highly complex processes in nature and technology with the aid of computer simulations, predicting and steering these, as well as estimating the process parameters. To this purpose, we use methods from analysis, stochastics, optimization and computer science, and combine these with tools and models from applied sciences such as engineering and physics.
